Summary
ChibiFiles is a file manager. Your files stay on your device. We do not sell or share personal data and do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
What the app accesses on your device
All of the following is processed locally only:
- Files and media (All files access / media permissions): to browse, open, copy, move, delete, clean and share your files. Files are never uploaded to our servers.
- Installed apps list (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES), and app usage stats if you grant it: to show your apps and their sizes, save APK backups and uninstall apps. This stays on the device.
- Installing packages (REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES): only when you tap an .apk/.apks file to install it.
- Nearby Wi-Fi devices (NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES; on Android 12 and lower, location, which is not used to determine your location): for Chibi Drop phone-to-phone transfer over Wi-Fi Direct. Files go directly between the two phones.
- Camera: only to scan the Chibi Drop QR code. No photos are taken or stored.
- Notifications: to show incoming Chibi Drop offers and transfer progress.
- Local network: "Wi-Fi to PC" sends files only to a computer address you enter (private/home or Tailscale addresses only).
- Vault: files are encrypted on the device (AES-GCM, Android Keystore). The PIN is stored only as a salted hash.
Data sent to our server (optional, opt-in)
If you agree to "install statistics", the app sends at most once a day: a random install ID, device manufacturer and model, Android version, app version, language/region and first-install date to notes.chibibots.dev. No files, contacts, phone numbers or location. You can turn it off in Settings at any time. The data is used only to count installs and is not shared.
Promotional banner
The bottom banner shows images bundled in the app promoting our own projects (ChibiBots, RiskChek). Tapping one opens the website in your browser. No ad network, no ad tracking, no advertising ID.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13.
Deletion
Uninstalling the app deletes all its local data. To delete install statistics, email us with your install ID (shown in Settings) or simply disable the option.
